Macau’s hotel occupancy rate rises 4.5 percentage points to 87.8% in May

Macau’s average hotel room occupancy rate in May was 87.8%, an increase of 4.5 percentage points year-on-year.

The monthly tally included an average hotel room occupancy rate in five-star hotels of 91.4%, representing the highest occupancy rate of any room class and 6.5 percentage points higher year-on-year.

The total number of guests staying at hotel establishments also increased by 2.7% year-on-year to 1.23 million. Among them, mainland Chinese guests accounted for the majority with approximately 902,000 guests, an increase of 3.7% year-on-year.

According to information from the Statistics and Census Service, there were 147 hotel establishments providing accommodation services to the public in May, an increase of four establishments year-on-year. However, the number of available rooms decreased by 3.7% to 45,000.

International guest arrivals in May reached approximately 100,000, up 12.9% year-on-year, with South Korean guests accounting for the majority at approximately 27,000, up 19.2% year-on-year. The average length of stay for guests in May remained at 1.6 nights.

For the first five months of 2025 combined, Macau’s average hotel occupancy rate increased by five percentage points year-on-year to 89.2%, while the number of guests decreased by 2.1% to 6.0 million. The average length of stay remained at 1.7 nights.

The number of tour group visitors for the first five months of the year combined reached 855,000, up 0.7% year-on-year. International tour group visitors increased by 12.4% to 99,000, with South Korean tour group visitors rising by 24.2% to 46,000 and mainland Chinese tour group visitors decreasing by 2.2% to 732,000.
