The former head of the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP), Ng Wai Han, has been named as the new Director of Macau’s gaming regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) – making her the DICJ’s first ever female director.
The announcement was made by the Secretary for Economy and Finance via the Official Gazette on Wednesday morning. Ng’s term commences immediately, as of 7 May 2025, and lasts for one year.
The government said the appointment of Ng was due to her professional qualifications and capabilities demonstrated through her career and which make her suitable for the role of DICJ Director.
Ng began her public service career in 1999 and has over 20 years of experience in public service at the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL). She initially served as a senior technical officer in the legal division of DSAL and has continued to hold public office within the bureau. She was promoted to Deputy Director of DSAL in 2017 and was appointed Deputy Director of SAFP in 2020. She has held the position of Director since 2023.
Ng holds a Bachelor of Law degree and a Master of Criminal Law degree, both from Sun Yat-sen University.
Since Macau’s new Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai took office on 20 December, the former Director of the DICJ, Adriano Marques Ho, has been transferred to the position of Director General of the Macao Customs, leaving Lio Chi Chong to act as interim director of the regulator.
Notably, both Ng and Lei Seak Chio, who was recently appointed as Deputy Director of the DICJ, have strong backgrounds in the Labour Affairs Bureau. Lei has been working at DSAL since 2005 and became a department head in 2016. He served as head of the hazard monitoring department from 2020 to 2023 and as head of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health since 2023.
