The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) reported that Macau’s average hotel occupancy rate during the May Day holiday period was 94.1%, an increase of 5 percentage points compared to the same period last year. The highest occupancy rate was recorded on Friday 2 May, reaching 98.1%.
As reported by IAG, the total number of visitors arriving in Macau during Golden Week, which ran from 1 to 5 May, was 849,819, representing a year-on-year increase of 40.7%. The peak day for arrivals was 2 May, with 221,926 visitors entering Macau, marking a year-on-year increase of 47.2%.
Mainland Chinese visitors accounted for the majority of visitors, with 678,521 visitors from mainland China, representing 79.8% of the total, up 39.6% year-on-year. Hong Kong visitors followed with 111,189 visitors, accounting for 13.1% of the total and up 42.3% year-on-year.
According to the MGTO, the average daily visitor volume during the five-day Golden Week holiday was approximately 170,000, surpassing the 2019 average of 158,000 and reaching 107.5% of the 2019 daily average.
