Macau’s average hotel occupancy rate in March 2025 increased by 5.1 percentage points year-on-year to 88.8%, however the number of guests decreased by 2.7% to 1.2 million, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service.
By hotel category, five-star hotels achieved an occupancy rate of 92.4%, up 6.7 percentage points year-on-year, followed by two-star hotels with an occupancy rate of 90.8%, up 0.5 percentage points year-on-year.
Among the 1.2 million visitors, mainland Chinese guests accounted for the majority, with approximately 900,000, up 2.3% year-on-year; followed by Hong Kong guests with 135,000, down 24% year-on-year.
Among foreign overnight guests, South Korean guests were the largest group, with 28,000, up 15.1% year-on-year, followed by Malaysian guests, with approximately 10,000, up 24.5% year-on-year.
As of the end of the first quarter, there were 147 hotel establishments providing accommodation services to the public, an increase of 6 year-on-year, with the number of available rooms decreasing by 5.8% to 44,000.
The average room occupancy rate for the first three months of the year combined increased by 5.2 percentage points year-on-year to 90.1%, with five-star hotels reaching 93.2%, an increase of 6.1 percentage points year-on-year. Meanwhile, the number of guests staying at hotel establishments in the first quarter decreased by 5.4% year-on-year to 3.574 million.
