Popular casino marketing executive Shirley Tam has today joined INSPIRE Entertainment resort in Korea as Chief Casino Marketing Officer.
The author visited INSPIRE last week and was pleasantly surprised to run into Tam as she was preparing to take on her new role.
Tam’s casino career has spanned some 24 years, beginning at Caesar’s Windsor in Canada, where she rose through the ranks to Assistant Marketing Operations Manager over eight years. She then moved to Macau to work at The Venetian (four years), Galaxy (six years) and Wynn (four months), all in casino marketing roles, rising to VP level.
She then moved into the casino cruise sector, as Vice President of Marketing for Genting Hong Kong for two years, and finally took up a position as SVP Premium Marketing at Okada Manila for three years.
Leaving Okada in August 2021 during the pandemic, Tam then took a break from the industry, enrolling in a one year culinary course in the UK as a passion project, which led to many delightful Facebook images!
Tam’s re-entry into the Asia-Pacific IR industry represents another step forward for INSPIRE Entertainment Resort, which recently came under the operational control of Bain Capital, following the departure of Mohegan, which had developed the resort through to its full launch in February 2024.
The transfer of control was as a result of a Mohegan default under the terms of a US$275 million “Korea Term Loan” for the US$1.6 billion IR. Mohegan has confirmed the default was a debt covenant violation requiring INSPIRE to achieve agreed financial targets, and was not related to any missed loan payments.
