Macau’s average hotel room occupancy rate rose by 5.5 percentage points to 90.6% in February, although the number of guests decreased by 7.8% year-on-year to 1,127,000.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the number of hotel establishments offering accommodation services to the public in February totaled 147, an increase of six on a year-on-year basis, while the number of rooms available decreased by 5.7% to 44,000 rooms.
The average room occupancy rate reached 90.6% in February, with the five-star occupancy at 93.6%, up 5.1 percentage points year-on-year. The occupancy rates of 4-star (85.1%) and 3-star (87.2%) hotels increased by 5.6 and 7.9 percentage points respectively.
In February, hotel guests decreased by 7.8% year-on-year to 1.127 million. Mainland China accounted for the largest number of guests, with 86,000, representing a 7.6% year-on-year decline. The number of foreign guests increased by 17.5% year-on-year to 866,000, with Korea leading the way with 30,000 guests, up 22.6% year-on-year.
The average occupancy rate of hotel rooms in the first two months of this year combined increased by 5.2 percentage points year-on-year to 90.7%. The number of guests decreased by 6.3% year-on-year to 2,384,000, while the average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.6 nights.
The DSEC also revealed that the number of inbound tour group visitors increased by 3.8% year-on-year to 145,000 in February. However, mainland China’s tour group arrivals dropped by 0.7% to 124,000, while foreign tour group arrivals increased by 44.8% to 19,000, of which Korean tour group arrivals increased by 64.8% to 11,000.
