Macau’s hotel occupancy rate increased by 3.9 percentage points year-on-year to 89.8% in January, although the number of hotel guests decreased by 4.7% year-on-year to 1.3 million.
As of January, there were a total of 147 hotel establishments providing accommodation services to the public in Macau, an increase of six year-on-year, while the number of rooms available decreased by 7% to 43,000 rooms.
The 89.8% average occupancy rate included occupancy of 92.0% in 5-star hotels, an increase of 4.8 percentage points year-on-year, while 4-star hotels reached 85.6%, an increase of 1.6 percentage points.
However, a reduction in the number of five star hotel rooms due to various renovation and upgrade works resulted in the decrease in hotel guests.
The number of International guests from foreign countries totaled around 101,000, up 2.5% year-on-year. Korea accounted for the highest number of international guests, with a total of around 35,000, an increase of 12.4% year-on-year. The average length of stay remained at 1.6 nights.
According to the Statistics and Census Service, the number of tour group arrivals increased by 79.2% year-on-year to 239,000 in January.
