Macau International Airport (MIA) has announced that airport passenger capacity exceeded 7.64 million in 2024, up 48% year-on-year, with the number of flight movements rising 41% to more than 59,000.
MIA is currently utilized by 27 airlines, offering flights to 41 destinations across mainland China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
In December, the peak travel season for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the airport recorded 680,000 passengers – 14% more than December 2023 – and 5,280 aircraft movements, up 9.6%.
During the Christmas holiday period from 20 to 25 December, an average of more than 22,000 passenger trips were handled each day, with 25,000 trips recorded on 22 December, the highest in 2024 for a single day.
The volume of air cargo handled in 2024 reached 108,000 tons, an increase of nearly 70% over the same period in 2023.
Macau International Airport Corporation Limited (CAM) pointed out that as Chinese New Year is approaching, MIA will continue to align with the tourism development direction of the Macau SAR Government, consolidating the key source market of mainland China while jointly exploring more international markets with overseas and base airlines so as to promote the steady growth of the airport and route development in 2025.
