Kam Pek Market, the revitalization project of SJM Resorts, will open its doors this Sunday, the company has confirmed. In the first phase, eight food and beverage outlets with nearly 100 seats will open.
Under Macau’s current 10-year gaming concession contracts, the six concessionaires are required to revitalize Macau’s old districts, with SJM responsible for the revitalization of the Avenida Almeida Ribeiro area, which includes three buildings: No. 16, the No. 14 Ferry Terminal, and Kam Pek Community Centre.
In August, SJM transformed the Kam Pek Community Centre into Kam Pek Market and opened the food and beverage outlets for bidding. After nearly four months of tendering, “Kam Pek Market” entered into trial operation on 13 December and will officially open for business on 22 December.
The first phase of operation will be on the ground floor, with a total area of over 7,000 square feet and nearly 100 seats. Eight food and beverage outlets will open in the first phase, seven of which are local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the other a food and beverage brand operated by SJM. Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese, Thai and Taiwanese cuisines will be offered to the public.
The second phase of the project will commence operation in January 2025 with the opening of shops on the ground floor. With a total area of over 5,800 square feet, the ground floor will have eight shops and nearly 130 seats.
“This marks an important step in revitalizing the district,” said SJM Managing Director, Daisy Ho. “As a starting point, we aim to create more iconic cultural landmarks that enrich Macau’s community and cultural tourism offerings.
“By driving footfall to the area, we seek to stimulate collaborative growth within the neighborhood, revitalize the local economy and implement a ‘large supports small’ development model that benefits residents and businesses alike.”
Kam Pek Market is a protected local heritage building. It was once Kam Pek Casino in the 1980s and 1990s but was transformed into Kam Pek Community Centre in 2002.
