Macau welcomed around 165,900 visitors on Wednesday, making it the second highest post-pandemic day of visitation behind only 24 August this year, when 166,500 people entered the city.

According to provisional figures from the Public Security Police Force, Wednesday saw around 709,000 arrivals and departures combined of which around 320,000 were tourists.

This takes the total number of visitor arrivals for the first two days of Golden Week to more than 304,000, with the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) having confirmed 138,339 arrivals on Tuesday 1 October – up 58.1% on the same day last year and up 19.9% on the 2023 October Golden Week daily average. Of Tuesday’s arrivals, 116,767 were from mainland China, up 93.8% year-on-year, and 14,647 from Hong Kong, down 26.8%, according to the MGTO.

The figures bode well for Macau’s gaming operators, with authorities having earlier predicted that this Saturday 5 October will be the peak of visitor arrivals.

The MGTO also stated recently it hoped to achieve 100,000 daily arrivals during Golden Week in what looks to be an extremely conservative forecast.
