Star Entertainment Group has announced the appointment of former Crown Melbourne COO Mark Mackay as the new Chief Executive Officer of The Star Gold Coast.
According to information made public early Monday, Mackay will commence in the role from this Tuesday 10 September, completing the company’s new leadership structure following a raft of senior executive departures in recent months. He joins fellow Crown Resorts alumni and now Star Entertainment Group CEO Steve McCann, The Star Sydney CEO Janelle Campbell and The Star Brisbane CEO Daniel Finch as key hires in recent months.
“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Mark to The Star as Chief Executive Officer of The Star Gold Coast,” said group Chairman, Anne Ward.
“Mark has a deep understanding of what it takes to run a leading integrated resort development and brings a lot of capability to this role. Mark’s appointment and relevant experience further strengthens our leadership team as we focus on implementing the necessary reforms at The Star.
“This appointment completes the new leadership team structure of decentralized management across our three integrated resort developments in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank Ian Brown, General Manager Gaming at The Star Gold Coast, for his leadership, support and significant contribution leading the Gold Coast team through the past four months.”
Mackay, who spent seven years at Crown, is no stranger to The Star Gold Coast, having previously served as COO of the property when it was known as Jupiters.
He returns at a critical time for Star, with the company in the midst of a battle to stave off insolvency after being again found unsuitable to operate The Star Sydney following a second inquiry.
