According to data released by Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the average occupancy rate of Macau hotel rooms in July dropped by 1.0 percentage point year-on-year to 88.4% but increased by 5.7 percentage points compared to June.
Among the data, five-star hotels enjoyed the highest occupancy rate of 91.9% in July, although this was down 0.4 percentage points year-on-year, while four-star hotels had an occupancy rate of 80.5%, a decrease of 6.1 percentage points year-on-year. Three-star hotels had an occupancy rate of 86.6%, an increase of 5.6 percentage points.
The total number of hotel occupants in July decreased by 5.9% year-on-year to 1,227,000, or 98.0% of the same period in 2019. There were approximately 76,000 international guests, an increase of 24.7% year-on-year, with Korea accounting for the largest number of international guests at 24,000, or an increase of 43.6%.
The average length of stay remained at 1.6 nights year-on-year, representing an increase of 0.2 nights compared with the same period in 2019.
The average room occupancy rate of hotel establishments in the first seven months of the year combined increased by 4.9 percentage points year-on-year to 84.6% and the number of residents increased by 15.8% to 8,505,000, with the average length of stay remaining unchanged at 1.7 nights.
In addition, the number of tour group visitors to Macau in the first seven months of this year was 171,000, a year-on-year increase of 150%. Among them, the number of tourists from mainland China increased by 130% to 1 million, while the number of international tourists increased by 460% to 118,000.
