The wages of Macau’s gaming industry employees climbed by 8.2% year-on-year to MOP$26,750 in the three months to 30 June 2024, including a 6.5% increase in the wages of dealers to MOP$21,660, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

It was also revealed that the number of full-time employees in the industry climbed by 825 people or 1.6% to 52,518, although this was still 5,322 lower compared to the same period in 2019.

According to DSEC, with the continuous increase in inbound tourists driving the further recovery of tourism-related industries, venues need to replenish manpower resources to cope with the demand. At the end of the second quarter, there were 498 vacancies in the gaming industry, a year-on-year increase of 385, or a rise of nearly 640%.

However, there were only 23,467 dealers at the end of the second quarter, a year-on-year decrease of 208 or 0.9%, and a decrease of 1,746 compared to 2019.

On the other hand, as of the end of Q2, there were 1,492 new hires and 1,143 departed gaming employees, representing an employee hiring rate of 2.9%, up 1.0 percentage points year-on-year, and an employee turnover rate of 2.2%, down 0.2 percentage points.
