Macau concessionaire SJM Resorts said Wednesday that the transformation of Kam Pek Community Centre into a dining landmark called Kam Pek Market will see 10 food stalls will be put up for bidding, with the venue expected to come into operation before Chinese New Year 2025.
At a briefing on the preliminary development plan for Kam Pek Market. SJM revealed the venue will have an area of 7,126 square feet on the ground floor and 5,813 square feet on the first floor. The two floors will have a total of 270 public seats and 18 food outlets.
In the first phase, a total of 10 food outlets will be open for bidding by local merchants. The food outlets on the ground floor are expected to come into operation in mid-December, while those on the first floor will come into operation before the Lunar New Year.
The second floor will feature dried food and retail outlets, with most details to be announced at a later stage.
The remodeling of Kam Pek Market will see the existing façade of the building preserved in an Art Deco style with structural elements to create an atmosphere aimed at appealing to the younger clientele. SJM also noted that it is hoped Kam Pek Market would become a trendy and fashionable dining destination that will attract more tourists and local residents.
For successful bidders, monthly charges for food outlet will be divided into two parts based on a percentage of turnover: monthly rent and promotional fee, accounting for 10% of the turnover of the outlets; and a monthly management fee and cleaning fee, accounting for another 10% of turnover.
SJM’s Managing Director, Daisy Ho, said Kam Pek Market forms an important part of the company’s plan to revitalize old districts.
“We hope that through this project, we can give full play to our competitive advantages and inject new momentum into the development of Macau’s community,” she said.
SJM Holdings announced on 21 May that it had acquired Kam Pek Community Centre at a cost of HK$166 million (US$21.3 million).
