The Macau SAR Government has confirmed that a large-scale outdoor performance venue covering around 94,000 square meters will be built on an empty plot located next to Grand Lisboa Palace and Lisboeta Macau, and is scheduled to be put into operation next year.

Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said early Monday that the venue would have a maximum capacity of 80,000 people, while the Cultural Affairs Bureau later released more details of the venue, to be named Macau Outdoor Performance Zone, clarifying that the capacity will be 50,000.

According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the performance venue “will create favorable conditions for the organization of large-scale outdoor performances in Macau in the future and will attract performances of international standard to Macau.

“The Government has taken into account the different spatial conditions of Macau and balanced various factors such as geographic location before selecting the site. Currently, various departments of the Macau SAR Government are making preparations for the design of the program and the tendering of the works for the performance area, which is expected to be put into use in 2025.”

The Macau Outdoor Performance Zone will be equipped with basic and ancillary facilities for hosting large-scale performances, and will attract organizations from the mainland and overseas that are planning large-scale outdoor cultural festivals, performing arts programs and international tours.
