Macau government generates US$889 million in gaming tax revenue in May

The Macau SAR government recorded revenue from gaming tax of MOP$7.15 billion (US$889 million) in May, down 9.9% compared with April’s gaming tax revenue of MOP$7.94 billion (US$986 million) although 25.4% higher year-on-year.

The May figure reflects Macau’s gross gaming revenue from the month of April, with the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau having previously reported April GGR of MOP$18.55 billion (US$2.30 billion).

For the first five months of 2024 combined, gaming tax has amounted to MOP$37.0 billion (US$4.6 billion), an increase of 78.2% compared with the same period last year, according to information from the Financial Services Bureau (DSF).

The Macau SAR government has estimated that gaming tax revenue for FY24 will be around MOP$83.6 billion (US$10.4 billion), with the budget execution rate from January to May currently standing at 44.3%.

The government’s total revenue for the first five months of this year amounted to MOP$43.6 billion (US$5.42 billion), a year-on-year increase of 72.3%. The special gaming tax from concessionaires has accounted for 84.9% of the total.
