Macau’s hotels achieved an occupancy rate of 83.3% in April, up 4.0 percentage points compared with the same month last year and largely in line with the March occupancy rate of 83.5%.
According to details from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), April occupancy included 85.1% in 5-star hotels, 79.6% in 4-star hotels and 81.1% for 3-star hotels.
The number of hotel guests was also up 5.6% year-on-year to 1,159,000, with the number of guests from mainland China rising 11.8% to 823,000, from Taiwan by 96.1% to 34,000 and from South Korea by 245% to 24,000. Those from Hong Kong fell by 35.0% to 165,000.
The average length of stay of guests held stable year-on-year at 1.6 nights, representing an increase of 0.2 nights compared to April 2019.
For the first four months of 2024, the average occupancy rate of Macau’s hotels went up by 8.4 percentage points year-on-year to 84.5%, while the total number of guests grew by 29.8% year-on-year to 4,939,000.
The DSEC also revealed that visitor arrivals on package tours grew by 142% year-on-year to 216,000 in April, with tour visitors from mainland China soaring by 123.3% to 194,000. International visitor arrivals on package tours jumped by 980% to 20,000 in April, including 8,000 from South Korea and 2,000 from Malaysia.
A total of 720,000 visitors arrived on package tours in the first four months of 2024, up by 258% year-on-year and of which 643,000 were from mainland China.
