A local senator has introduced a bill that would make the provision of online gaming services from the island of Tinian legal, the Saipan Tribune reports.
Senator Jude U. Hofschneider (R-Tinian) introduced Senate Local Bill No. 23-05 this week, which aims to amend the Commonwealth Code to provide for regulatorily compliant internet gaming. Licenses, it added, would be granted for a period not exceeding 20 years.
According to the report, the legislation states that such an amendment is necessary to ensure the Tinian and Aguiguan Legislative Delegation is globally competitive while remaining compliant with US federal laws and regulations.
It would permit the conduct of internet gaming by those granted a license, and provide for the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission to draw up and apply specific regulations governing the industry.
Such provision of internet gaming services would be restricted to those located within the borders of Tinian and Aguiguan, or in other jurisdictions where partaking in online gaming is permitted, with requirements to be established around the use of geolocation software as well as age verification software.
However, the bill does not suggest any limit to the number of internet gaming licenses that may be granted, according to the Saipan Tribune.
