A total of 109,592 passengers traveled through Macau International Airport (MIA) during the five-day Golden Week, a 66% increase in passenger traffic compared with the same period last year and a return to 80% of 2019 levels, according to airport authorities.
The holiday saw MIA record 908 aircraft movements, up 59% year-on-year and 85% of 2019 levels, the airport said, with international flights accounting for 45% of the total. Another 44% of the flights were to and from mainland China and 11% to and from Taiwan.
Of the total 109,592 passengers, 26,314 passengers traveled through MIA on 1 May, which saw 201 flights handled.
Separately, MIA confirmed that Korean Air plans to launch a route between Macau and Seoul in July, as well as a route between Seoul and Lisbon by the end of the year, by which time its passengers will be able to travel from Macau to Portugal via Seoul.
In the second half of the year, MIA will increase the number of scheduled flights to incorporate a total of 29 airlines, including 22 destinations connecting to mainland China, three connecting to Taiwan and 14 to international destinations.
