Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded nearly 1.8 million passenger movements in the first quarter of the year, recovering to about 77% of the 2,337,380 passengers in the same period in 2019, the airport said in a statement.

Passenger throughput statistics released on Monday by Macau International Airport Corporation Limited (CAM) showed that MIA recorded 587,296 passenger movements in January, 604,703 in February and 607,204 in March respectively, totalling 1,799,203 in the first quarter of the year.

These represented 75.5% of 2019 levels for January, 77.76% for February and 77.7% for March.

The number of passengers in the first quarter also increased by about 138% compared to 757,007 in the same period last year and by about 12.9% compared to the fourth quarter of last year.

In 2023, the number of passengers travelling to and from Macau International Airport reached 5,151,080 or 53.5% of the 9,611,427 movements in 2019.

As previously reported by IAG, Air Macau announced on 31 March that its first A330-300 wide-body aircraft had arrived in Macau from Hangzhou, with a second wide-body aircraft to be introduced later this year.

Meanwhile, China Southern Airlines has also re-entered the Macau market, operating flights from Beijing’s Daxing International Airport which it will use to connect to Europe and other routes.
