Macau concessionaire SJM Resorts said Tuesday it has completed the training of 675 gaming employees in new non-gaming vocations.
The employees were presented with certificates at a graduation ceremony at Grand Lisboa Palace on Monday as part of the “SJM Cross-Training Development Program for Gaming Practitioners”, co-organised by SJM Resorts, S.A. and the Labour Affairs Bureau. SJM said the program aims to enhance vocational skills and promote lateral and diverse development among gaming employees.
As previously reported by IAG, SJM had been carrying well over 2,000 excess staff throughout much of 2023 as a result of the closure of multiple satellite casinos previously operating under its license. The company has, however, vowed to gradually transition them into other parts of the business, particularly non-gaming facilities.
According to SJM, Managing Director Daisy Ho has expressed her desire for the graduating employees to “utilize the professional skills acquired during the training to quickly adapt to new work environments, promote the development of non-gaming business together with the company and contribute to Macau’s appropriate economic diversification.”
The “SJM Cross-Training Development Program for Gaming Practitioners” provided more than 7,000 hours of comprehensive training to gaming employees, including courses on pre-requisite skills for catering and security staff, basic computer training, tour guide training and frontline staff professional etiquette, among others, SJM explained.
