Malaysia’s only integrated casino resort, Resorts World Genting, has announced that it will close two of its three casinos, effective as of today – 28 February 2024.
The surprise revelation was confirmed via an announcement posted on the Resorts World Genting website, stating that Genting Casino 1 (Circus Palace) and Genting Casino 2 (Hollywood) will be closed with effect from today.
The notice advised customers to instead proceed to SkyCasino for gaming, with a shuttle service to be provided to SkyCasino between 10am and midnight daily.
While no reason for the casino closures was provided, local media reported that business volumes at Circus Palace and Hollywood had been subdued since COVID-19. IAG has reached out to RWG for comment.
RWG operator Genting Malaysia most recently reported a net profit of MYR158.3 million (US$33.8 million) in 3Q23, reversing an MYR8.2 million (US$1.75 million) loss from a year earlier thanks largely to the improved performance of its Malaysian flagship.
Analysts also expect visitation to RWG to fully recover this year, aided by the return of Chinese visitors.
