Malaysian police have arrested 10 people in relation to the theft of MYR4.6 million (US$973,000) in casino chips from one of Genting Malaysia’s casinos at Genting Highlands.
According to local media reports, the chips were found to be missing last Saturday night after casino security noticed there had been a break-in. A report was subsequently lodged on 28 October, with authorities confirming, “One of the casino rooms where the chips were stored had been broken into by force … several suspects have been identified.
In an update overnight, police said they have now arrested 10 people to “assist with investigations” following a series of raids.
Resorts World Genting at Genting Highlands is home to two casinos in Genting Casino and SkyCasino, both operated by Genting Malaysia.
The company most recently reported a 17% year-on-year increase in revenue at its Malaysian flagship to MYR1.53 billion (US$329 million) in the three months to 30 June 2023, helping push group-wide revenues to MYR2.47 billion (US$532 million).
