Macau welcomed a total of 932,365 visitor arrivals during the eight-day Golden Week, with the combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period attracting an average of 116,545 visitors per day.
According to information from the Macao Government Tourism Office, the daily average was 366% higher than the same period last year and represented recovery to 84% of pre-COVID levels.
Hotel occupancy also reached 87.9%, the agency added, a year-on-year increase of 23.7 percentage points compared with the 2022 National Day holiday. The average occupancy rate spiked to 94.3% on 1 October, the highest this year.
Of the total 932,365 visitors to Macau between 29 September and 6 October, there were 709,079 arrivals from mainland China at an average of 88,634 per day – up 296% year-on-year – and 171,672 Hong Kong visitors at 21,459, up more than 1,070%. Taiwan also contributed 10,683 visitors while there were 40,931 international visitors.
The highest single day visitation figure throughout Golden Week was 158,726 on Saturday 30 September.
The daily average of visitors entering into Macau was 18.7% higher than during the Labor Day holiday in May, while the average hotel room rate of MOP$1,804 was 61.7% higher than in 2022 and 0.9% higher than the Labor Day holiday.
The MGTO said it conducted during Golden Week six collaborative inspections with the interdepartmental work force, joined by the Public Security Police Force, Consumer Council, Macao Customs Service and Economic and Technological Development Bureau, during which no irregularities were discovered.
It also carried out 123 inspections at ports of entry, tourist attractions, hotel establishments and more without discovery of irregularities, however it did discover one apartment allegedly operated as illegal accommodation.
