The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in the first nine months of 2023 reached 8.9 million, representing a 4.7-fold year-on-year increase according to information from the General Statistics Office.

This included more than 1 million foreign visitors in September, down 13.4% compared with August. The 8.9 million arrivals between January and September was equal to 69% of pre-COVID levels, with 87.5% of those arrivals entering the country by air.

Local media outlet VietnamNet said that revenue from accommodation and catering services rose by 16%, while earnings from travel and tourism services improved by 47.7% year-on-year.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism has also reported strong tourism growth, with 3.5 million foreign visitors entering the country during the first eight months of 2023 – up 251% year-on-year but down 19.7% on the same period in 2019. Cambodia is targeting somewhere between 4.5 million and 5 million visitor arrivals this year.

Of the current figure, 1.2 million people arrived by air, up 206%, and 2.28 million by land and sea.
