The number of passengers travelling between Singapore and China reached 72% of pre-COVID levels in August while surpassing 500,000 for the first time in more than three years, according to information from airport operator Changi Airport Group (CAG).
Passenger movement between the two countries climbed above 510,000 in August, compared with 713,000 in August 2019, and represent a massive jump from the 69,000 movements recorded in January – the same month Beijing dropped most of its COVID border restrictions.
The August figures included 2,600 passenger flights between China and Singapore, representing 76% of 2019 levels, and helped China move back into the top three when it comes to Singapore’s source tourist markets behind Indonesia and Malaysia. China ranked number two in 2019 behind only Indonesia.
