The France Macau Chamber of Commerce held its 2023 Charity Gala Dinner at MGM Macau on the evening of Friday 15 September, raising MOP$62,250 in the process for its chosen charity, “Leave No Food Behind”.
The initiative centers on upcycling food trimmings and off-shelf vegetables into healthy pet food by applying various food technologies and food safety experiences. This “circular economy” approach in reducing food waste while also demonstrating compassion for life symbolizes a mutual commitment to promote sustainable practices and striving for a brighter future for the community.
With the theme “Paris Extravaganza”, the dinner was attended by 300 members and guests, and included the FMCC’s first “Macau ESG Awards”, aimed at promoting ESG to the community.
The three awards saw Macao IC2 Association named Best NGO for its efforts in promoting the rights of neurodivergent people. In the past seven years, IC2 has conducted workshops, classes and visits to foster inclusive education, promote cultural exchange and support individuals with special needs.
Zence Object Technology Ltd was named Best SME for its efforts in solving global waste problems. The company uses technological innovation to transform various inconspicuous waste materials, such as bamboo, platy codon grandiflorum, tea residue, Chinese herbal medicine residue and more into eco-friendly materials that are integrated into people’s daily lives.
Finally, Sands China Ltd won the Best Project award for their various ESG initiatives.
FMCC Chairman Rutger Verschuren noted that within the next year Macau would celebrate its 25th anniversary since transfer of sovereignty in 1999, while FMCC will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and France, coinciding with the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. FMCC, he added, would seize the opportunity to step up people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding and friendship, to deepen the cooperation between China and France through its role as a bridge for cultural and commercial exchanges between the two nations.
