The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will organize a roadshow in Tianjin, China from Thursday, involving all six concessionaires and local airlines, aiming to promote Macau and expand the market for mainland visitors.
The “Tianjin Macau Week” campaign is the second large-scale promotional campaign by the MGTO to be held in mainland China this year and will run for five consecutive days.
The MGTO will set up a number of booths at the roadshow, which will feature Macau’s tourism, commerce, cultural and creative, sports, and entertainment industries. It will also introduce Macau cuisine, festivals and events to the local audience.
A regular stage performance will feature a Tianjin comedian while a light sculpture show with Macau elements will be beamed onto the surface of the Tianjin Jiaotong Hotel building.
The roadshow comes at a time when mainland visitor numbers to Macau are showing signs of hitting pre-pandemic levels. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said on Saturday that the average daily visitor arrivals in August this year was close to 100,000 visitors.
“With the exception of a few days when the average daily number of visitors was over 90,000, the average daily number of visitors for the rest of this month was 100,000,” she said. Macau averaged around 108,000 visitor arrivals each day in 2019.
Fernandes also pointed out that August is likely to be the month with the highest number of visitors to Macau since the pandemic, with the number of visitors from Hong Kong having already returned to pre-pandemic levels and likely to exceed those levels in the near future.
