The number of full-time employees working in Macau’s gaming industry during the second quarter of 2023 fell by 1,899 year-on-year to 51,693, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service. However, the average monthly salary for gaming industry employees increased by 6.3% to MOP$24,730, including a 5.0% increase for dealers to MOP$20,330.
There were 986 new hires and 1,220 departures in the gaming industry in the second quarter, resulting in an increase of 1.6 and 0.9 percentage points in the hiring rate (1.9%) and turnover rate (2.4%), respectively, DSEC said.
Of the 51,693 full-time employees were 23,675 dealers, down by 418 compared to the same period in 2022, although there were also 94 more job vacancies at 113.
In terms of recruitment requirements, 69.0% of vacancies required work experience and 64.6% only required a high school diploma or below. 81.4% of vacancies required proficiency in Mandarin, while 57.5% required proficiency in English.
DSEC pointed out that the job vacancy rate was 0.2%, reflecting relatively stable human resources in the gaming industry. The results of the 2Q23 survey on human resources demand and salaries in the gaming industry did not include junket promoters.
