Macau’s Asia Pioneer Entertainment – a distributor of electronic gaming equipment for global gaming brands – has tapped a group of university interns to help it develop a prototype related to the use of artificial intelligence on the casino floor and elsewhere.
In releasing its 1H23 financial results last week, which saw the company book a 185% year-on-year increase in revenue to HK$7.67 million (US$981,115) but still fall to a HK$7.13 million (US$912,040) loss, APE revealed it has started its own research initiative to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence in gaming.
The project, it said, will explore the use of generative AI for next generation of casino gaming compliance as well as games adoption.
“It is the team’s hope that we will be able to use generative AI to assist the Group’s consulting business, as well as explore new games development,” the company explained.
APE did not respond to requests for more details but added that it has “started a program engaging a number of summer internship students from local universities to work on a three-month prototype building project for the Group.”
The company, which launched a Smart Vending Machine business in 2021, has previously said it would explore alternative business segments in order to diversify its revenue streams.
