Macau’s Tourism Price Index (TPI) stood at 137.24 for the June 2023 quarter, representing a slight 0.7% decline compared to Q1 due to lower hotel room rates, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). However, the TPI was 19.5% higher than the same period in 2022.
DSEC also revealed that the Hotel Room Price Index was down 10.6% sequentially to 126.98 in Q1, but 150% higher compared to just 50.64 in 2Q22.
As for other indices, the Entertainment and Cultural Activities Index increased by 17.1% year-on-year, while the Clothing and Footwear Price Index increased by 7.1%.
The average Tourism Price Index for the last four quarters rose by 9.14% over the previous period, with the price indices for the two major categories of accommodation and entertainment and cultural activities rising by 48.1% and 19.6% respectively. In the first half of this year, the Tourism Price Index rose by 18.8% year-on-year, while the Hotel Accommodation Price Index rose by 140%.
TPI reflects the price change of goods and services purchased by visitors. Sections of TPI goods and services are selected according to the consumption pattern of visitors, namely Food, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco, Clothing & Footwear, Accommodation, Restaurant Services, Transport & Communications, Medicine & Personal Goods, Entertainment & Cultural Activities, and Miscellaneous Goods.
