The Macao Government Tourism Office launched “Macao Week in Shandong•Qingdao” on Friday, with the five-day roadshow representing the latest in a series of recent initiatives aimed at promoting Macau as an attractive travel destination.
Located at the Olympic Sailing Centre in the Southern District of Qingdao and running until 12 June, Macao Week in Shandong•Qingdao is the seventh event of its kind following previous Macao Weeks held in Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Chongqing. The MGTO noted that this latest event is particularly meaningful given that Shandong and Macau have been cooperating in areas such as economy and commerce, culture, human resources, MICE, water sports and Chinese medicine, among others. It added that the tourism offices of Shandong and Macau are both members of the China Maritime Silk Road Tourism Promotion Alliance, while Macau and Qingdao are member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, in the field of gastronomy and film respectively.
The showcase itself includes themed zones and booths featuring “A glimpse into Macao Grand Prix Museum”; MAK MAK Flash Shop; MAK MAK House of Wonder; MAK MAK Hopscotch; Macau’s diverse culture; Macau’s sport events; Macau’s tourism products for sale; trade, commerce and economy of Macau; an informative display from the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, as well as displays by the city’s the six integrated resort operators and Air Macau.
Performances have been provided by Macau singers, while there have also been dragon and lion dances, a Portuguese Folk Dance and more. The six concessionaires have each arranged performances in different music and dance styles, the MGTO added.
Macao Week in Shandong•Qingdao follows a series of recent roadshows led by the MGTO across various international markets, including in Lisbon, Portugal and Bangkok, Thailand. In April, the MGTO hosted the “Experience Macao Unlimited – Macao Exhibition in Lisbon” at the historic Praça do Comércio (Commercial Plaza) while earlier this month it held the “Experience Macao Unlimited Mega Roadshow” in Bangkok, which aimed to capture the interest of Thai audiences and Southeast Asian travellers by showing off the wonders of Macau.
