The Macau government generated MOP$4.95 billion (US$613 million) in gaming tax revenue in April, up 237% on the MOP$1.47 billion (US$182 million) reported for the same month last year and 23% higher than in March, according to figures from the Financial Services Bureau.
The improvement reflects rapidly rising gaming revenues across Macau’s land-based casino industry, with GGR reaching MOP$12.74 billion (US$1.58 billion) in March then MOP$14.72 (US$1.82 billion) in April. The April tax figure is related to March GGR.
Gaming tax revenue for the first four months of 2023 reached MOP$15.1 billion (US$1.87 billion), up 48% year-on-year. It also represents 29.6% of the government’s budget of MOP$50.85 billion (US$6.30 billion) for FY23.
Total revenue generated by the government through April sits at MOP$20.1 billion (US$2.49 billion), meaning gaming tax has contributed 75.1% of Macau-wide income for the period.
