Macau had welcomed around 7.92 million tourists as of 10 May, already comfortably more than the 5.7 million tourists who arrived through all of 2022, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office.
The figures were made public as part of an exchange meeting between Macau and mainland China tourism officials this week, aimed at promoting tourism between the two jurisdictions.
Data shows that 1,397,748 tourists visited Macau in January, followed by 1,593,743 in February, 1,956,867 in March, 2,285,956 in April and 690,510 in the first 10 days of May.
The 690,51 visitors through 10 May is nearly 160,000 more than the 538,458 arrivals through the entirety of May 2022.
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes noted at the exchange meeting that the mainland remains the largest source of tourists to Macau and the MGTO would do its best to promote Macau tourism to the mainland utilizing both online and offline forums.
She also revealed that large-scale promotion campaign “Macau Week” will be relaunched in June, with the first stop to be Qingdao, Shandong Province.
