The Macau International Airport said Friday that it expects to carry around 72,000 air passengers during this week’s “May Day” Golden Week holiday.
The updated figure comes after the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said earlier that average daily visitor arrivals into Macau should reach 70,000.
“The average daily number of visitors is more than 70,000, but the final figure will probably be higher, and the hotel booking rate is already close to 80%,” the MGTO said at an inter-departmental press conference on Friday morning.
The Macau Public Security Police also stated that “Saturday to Monday will be the peak period for immigration, and the average daily number of people entering and leaving the city may exceed 500,000.”
Zhuhai Gongbei Customs pointed out that between 29 April and 3 May, an average of 340,000 people are expected to enter and leave Zhuhai Gongbei port daily.
TurboJet also announced last week that it will increase the number of ferry services from Monday 1 May. Based on statistics, the number of daily ferry services can reach 66. The Macau Maritime and Water Bureau added that, according to the information provided by ferry companies, the pre-sale of tickets for the 1 May holiday is satisfactory and the number of passengers is expected to increase.
“The ferry companies have planned to increase the number of flights by about 20% … passengers who plan to travel by sea during May Day are urged to make early ticketing arrangements.”
Macau International Airport Co. Ltd. (CAM) said that the number of aircraft movements during the May Day Golden Week will be about 600 and the number of air passengers will be about 72,000.
“The airport will handle an average of 120 flights and 14,400 passengers per day, a 20% increase compared to April,” it said.
“Compared to the 2019 Golden Week, the number of aircraft movements and passengers will reach around 56% and 53% respectively.”
