From this Friday 28 April, the Macau government will no longer make it mandatory for passengers to wear masks on public transport.
In the latest easing of pandemic restrictions, mask requirements will be divided into three levels, those being “should wear a mask”, “recommended to wear a mask” and “need not wear a mask”.
In the case of influenza-like symptoms such as fever and cough, when a person tests positive to COVID, when there is a cluster of influenza outbreaks in a workplace, in childcare centers and non-higher education institutions, or when entering medical institutions (except for inpatients) or elderly and rehabilitation institutions (except for service users living in institutions), individuals will be classified as “should wear a mask”.
The “recommended to wear a mask” level refers to public transportation and some indoor locations, although individuals can decide whether or not to wear a mask when attending organizations or locations that do not specifically require it.
As for the “need not wear a mask” level, this refers to all outdoor areas and during meals.
However, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre noted that “if there is a change in the pandemic situation, the mask requirement will be adjusted according to the actual situation.
“Residents should have masks on hand to wear when they go outside and should stock up on masks at home for at least two weeks to cover the peak of the pandemic of novel coronavirus infection and other respiratory infectious diseases.
The Center also announced that two confirmed cases of COVID were detected on Wednesday and sent to the treatment facility.
Macau updated its guidelines for wearing masks on 27 February, under which all people could go maskless outside but were still required to wear them on public transportation and in hospitals.
