Former Macau satellite casino Million Dragon Hotel, owned by businessman Chan Meng Kam, is planning to cease hotel operations as well and become a residence for students at the City University of Macau, IAG has learned.
Responding to IAG’s inquiries after social media posts hinted at the change of operation, a source said, “Million Dragon Hotel will change its operation mode, but the hotel structure will not change. As for what model it will change to, the hotel will make appropriate announcements when the time comes.”
Online checks by Inside Asian Gaming initially found that hotel rooms at Million Dragon Hotel were longer available to book after April, although we were able to book after contacting the hotel. Staff did not confirm whether or not the hotel would indeed become a student dormitory of the City University of Macau, whose Board of Trustees is also chaired by Chan Meng Kam.
As previously reported by IAG, all casinos under Chan’s Golden Dragon Group ceased casino operations last year after the government announced changes to how satellite casinos would be governed under the SAR’s revised gaming law.
Casino Golden Dragon, Casino Royal Dragon and Casino Million Dragon had all operated under the concession of SJM Resorts before operational control was handed back to SJM last June.
