Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has revealed there were a total of 52,174 full-time gaming employees in the fourth quarter of 2022, a year-on-year decrease of 2,665.
The number of employees fell in all positions, with the number of dealers down by 685 to 23,721. Services and sales staff decreased by 932 to 3,967, technicians and associate professionals by 77 to 2,164, and clerks by 1,141 to 41,045.
The average monthly salary of full-time employees in the sector was MOP$23,680 (US$2,930), a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%, of which the average salary of local employees was MOP23,730 (US$2,935) and that of foreign employees was MOP$21,810 (US$2,698).
Full-time employees saw their average salaries increase by 1.8% when compared with 30 June, but fall by 0.1% year-on-year, to MOP23,680
The average salary of dealers was MOP$19,800 (US$2,450), down 1.1% year-on-year.
In the fourth quarter, 99 new employees and 803 former employees were hired, and the employee hiring rate was 0.2%, while the turnover rate was 1.5%.
DSEC noted, “The vacancy rate dropped to a near-zero level, reflecting that the demand for human resources in the gaming industry remains at a relatively low level.”
However, there was a significant decrease in the number of full-time employees in the gaming industry compared to 2019. There were 58,225 full-time employees were employed in the gaming industry in 2019, with an average salary of MOP$24,790 (US$3,066) for local employees and MOP$21,910 (US$2,710) for foreign employees.
The survey results of human resources in the gaming industry excludes Junkets and agents.
