Macau’s total visitor spending in 2022 was MOP$18.17 billion (US$2.25 billion), 25.7% lower than in 2021.
According to the Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), excluding gaming revenue, this included total visitor spending in the December quarter of MOP$4.83 billion (US$597 million), down 23.5% year-on-year due to a decrease in arrivals. Spending by overnight visitors in Q4 was MOP$4.12 billion (US$509 million) and spending by same-day visitors was MOP$710 million (US$88), down by 19.6% and 40.3% respectively.
Per capita spending did increase in the quarter however, rising 11.7% year-on-year to MOP$3,614 (US$447).
Mainland China visitors spent MOP$3,736 per person (US$462), up 11.6% year-over-year, while individual travelers spent MOP$6,179 (US$764) per person, down 15.9%.
For FY22, total spending by overnight visitors was MOP$14.91 billion (US$1.84 billion), down 30.0%, while total spending by same-day visitors was MOP$3.25 billion (US$402 million), up 3.7%.
Per capita spending for the year was MOP$3,187 (US$394), a slight increase of 0.4% year-over-year, while per capita spending of MOP$6,004 (US$743) for overnight visitors and MOP$1,011 (US$125) for same-day visitors represented increases of 4.1% and 29.3% respectively.
