The former head of Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), Paulo Martins Chan, will step down from the Public Ministry on 17 January, according to a report by TDM-Rádio Macau.
Chan oversaw Macau’s gaming regulator for four-and-a-half years from December 2015 to June 2020 before returning to the Public Prosecutions Office, where had had previously served as Public Prosecutor from 1998.
Macau’s current Public Prosecutor, Ip Son Sang, praised Chan’s career, stating he has “exercised public functions for more than 36 years and performed his functions as a magistrate for about 25 years”, during which time “he revealed a high sense of responsibility, spirit of mission and dedication in his work.
“His excellent performance earned him the respect and praise of both his hierarchical superiors and colleagues,” Ip added.
After heading up the DICJ from late 2015, Chan was replaced as DICJ Director in mid-2020 by Adriano Ho.
