Macau’s latest COVID-19 outbreak continues to inch up, with three more people testing positive on Monday including a 58-year-old man with an unknown source of infection. In response, the Macau government announced that a round of universal nucleic acid testing will be conducted on all people in Macau from Tuesday.
According to the Macau Contingency Coordination Center, the 58-year-old man lives in Zhuhai and works in Macau. He tested positive in Zhuhai and his workplace in Macau was immediately listed as a red code area.
The Macau Health Bureau said the man has not had contact with any confirmed patients in Zhuhai and Macau, but does not rule out latent transmission in the community.
In addition, two more people were diagnosed in Macau on Mondauy, both relatives of the patient diagnosed on 28 October. Both have a dry cough and sore throat and are now in isolation at a quarantine facility.
At a press conference, Director of the Health Bureau Lo Iek Long said, “All Macau residents will be tested tomorrow and will be required to do so within one day, but if the test is done today, it will not be [required] tomorrow.”
Macau residents must also conduct daily RAT tests from 30 October to 1 November.
In addition, because of the situation in Macau, the Zhuhai government has set up traffic control for the entire Gongbei border area and has asked anyone who entered from Macau since last Saturday 29 October to undergo three days of home health monitoring and three days of testing.
