Macau’s September 2022 GGR was MOP$2.96 billion (US$370 million), down 49.6% compared to the same month last year, according to figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) minutes ago. The amount was the highest since May this year.

Gambling revenue from January to September 2022 was MOP$31.9 billion (US$3.99 billion), down 53.1% compared to last year.

Despite the fact that the 18 June epidemic in Macau is now well and truly over, immigration procedures between Macau and the mainland remained relatively restrictive in September.

In addition to repeated outbreaks in mainland China, Macau has not opened quarantine-free entry for foreign visitors, so the daily number of visitors to Macau remained at around 20,000 in September, well short of the 2019 average of 108,000 per day.

However, the Macau government has taken positive steps to address issues affecting tourism. Last Saturday, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said that he had successfully negotiated with the central government to re-open mainland group tours and e-visas from November.
