The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) said a total of 81,798 visitors came to Macau in the week from 12 August to 18 August, with almost 17,000 visitors arriving last Saturday 20 August – the highest number of visitors in a single day since dropping isolation measure for mainland Chinese visitors earlier this month.
A total of 81,798 visitors were recorded during the week in question, with a daily average of 11,685 visitors, up 56.0% from the daily average of 7,490 between 5 and 11 August and well above the daily average of 315 visitors in July.
“MGTO is closely monitoring the pandemic situation, actively cooperating with the relevant guidelines issued by the health department and adjusting the activity arrangement and promotion plan in a timely manner,” the MGTO said.
As reported by IAG, from Monday 22 August foreigners are allowed to enter Macau quarantine-free via mainland China under certain conditions. The MGTO said, “We will actively grasp the favorable measures and continue to strengthen tourism promotion.”
While the daily increase represents a very small step forward, it is still less than 11% of the average daily visitor intake of 108,000 recorded in 2019.
