As part of its Whole Person Development initiatives, Melco Resorts & Entertainment hosted a dedicated Back to School graduation ceremony for 20 employees who have been studying for their High School Diplomas while working full time at Melco.

The graduation event was attended by Melco’s Chairman and CEO, Lawrence Ho, as well as Vice Principal of Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes, Ms Ieong Weng Si, and Director of Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming of the University of Macau, Professor Davis Fong.

To support lifelong learning, Melco has been implementing the Back to School program since 2010 in collaboration with Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macau (DSEDJ) and Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes.

The program provides team members who left school prematurely with the opportunity to gain their High School Diploma in-house by undertaking formal education alongside their employment at Melco.

Special awards were also presented during the graduation ceremony, with eight graduates receiving Outstanding Academic Awards for the achievement of 85 points or above and nine Outstanding Academic Awards for the achievement of 80 points or above.

One graduate also received the Li Bai Award for the year’s top result in Chinese Language and two received Lotus Award for overall highest achievement for Junior High School. Another graduate received the Lotus Award and Macau Foundation Award for Art Education for Senior High School.

“Melco was the first Macau integrated resort operator to launch its in-house Back to Schoolprogram in collaboration with Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomesback in 2010 as part of our Whole Person Development program,” said Ho.

“It has since inspired other companies to adopt similar programs. Its success is built upon the wholehearted support of our business unit leaders who assist our colleagues through their years of learning while working, and of course, the sheer commitment and dedication of our colleague participants and their families.

“Congratulations to the latest group of program graduates who have spent the past 3 to 4 years studying for their High School Diploma during full time employment, showing incredible perseverance. We continue to encourage all colleagues to pursue lifelong learning for personal and professional development.”

Ms. Ieong added, “We are grateful for Melco’s long-term collaboration with Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes which has been supporting students with lifelong learning opportunities.

“This year’s graduates have shown immense determination and perseverance during their three years of study, extending beyond their comfort zones and simultaneously balancing work, family and study obligations. Congratulations to the graduates who I hope will continue to practice lifelong learning to achieve further prosperity and success in life.”
