The Star Gold Coast expects to have as many hotel rooms as iconic Singapore integrated resort Marina Bay Sands by the time its ongoing expansion projects are complete, the company said this week.
The comment, from The Star Gold Coast Chief Operating Officer Jess Mellor, came as Star Entertainment Group touted another milestone in the development of its second hotel and residential tower – part of the property’s AU$2 billion masterplan. With 12,000 cubic metres of concrete now poured on the 21-metre high, six level podium, the foundation of the 63-storey tower has now been formed.
The foundation will be home to a luxury recreation deck with pool, pool bar, events lawn and other hospitality amenities.

“It’s a really exciting stage of construction as we’ve reached the point where every week from now on, we will see the tower taking shape rising approximately a level every week,” Mellor said.
“We’ve just opened the brand new The Star Residences and Dorsett Hotel, which takes the current accommodation options at The Star Gold Coast to well over 1,100 rooms,” she said.
“By the time this game-changing development is complete we will have more accommodation offerings than any other resort in Australia, with as many hotel rooms as Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
“Our masterplan allows for a total of five towers, so we are continuing to build a world-class tourism and entertainment destination in one of the world’s most sought-after holiday locations, creating hundreds of jobs and supporting our local economy.”
The second tower of Star’s Gold Coast masterplan – a joint venture in partnership with Hong Kong’s Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium – is planned to offer 210 hotel rooms and 457 residential apartments once complete.
