The provincial governor of Preah Sihanouk, Kuoch Chamroeun, has promised to suspend licenses and bring criminal proceedings against any casino owners found to be involved in criminal activity.
Cambodian media is reporting that the governor wants to impose the measures against those involved in activities such as human or drug trafficking, illegal confinement, gun crime or murders following the recent shooting deaths of two Chinese nationals at the Tong Fang Palirin Casino.
“After this deadly shooting incident, we’re taking decisive action against casinos and other business locations,” Chamroeun said.
“If they are found to be involved in [criminal activities], we will shut them down, suspend their operations and ask permission from the government to revoke their business licences.
“We are formally putting the owners of casinos and other business owners within our jurisdiction on notice that no further incidents will be tolerated.”
Authorities in Sihanoukville also revealed this week that they had detained people with knowledge of the recent shooting, which was said to be over money, but are still searching for the gunmen.
