As of 5pm Monday, a further 55 people have today received initial diagnoses of COVID-19, bringing the Sunday night total of 852 cases since the 18 June outbreak of COVID in Macau to 907. The Head of the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center, Leong Iek Hou, said that since the outbreak of the disease on June 18, a total of 21 people have been diagnosed at Conde S. Januário Hospital, including health care workers and outsourced staff.
Leong said, “After the Health Bureau investigated the confirmed staff, the conclusion is that there is no sign of transmission at the hospital.” The 21 confirmed hospital cases include one doctor, six nurses, one outsourced security guard, and 13 outsourced cleaning company staff.
The Shoppes at Four Seasons is another hot spot for the virus. Leong said, “The Shoppes at Four Seasons are involved in many cases, including sales staff, cleaning and security personnel. The Four Seasons have been asked to suspend operations at some of its stores because the staff dormitory residents have been infected.”
Today the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center announced that it will no longer announce the itineraries of cases. Leong explained that the number of cases in Macau is increasing and patients’ itineraries are spreading all over Macau, so the government should instead concentrate its efforts on controlling the cases, and if there are patients with more complicated itineraries in the future, they will be announced.
Two elderly people have now passed away due to the epidemic – the first time in the 2.5 years since the outbreak of COVID that someone has died in Macau due to the disease. The two deceased, aged 100 and 94, had a variety of chronic diseases, including hypertension, stroke, and brain degeneration.
Three citywide mass testings will be conducted this week, on July 4 to 5, July 6 to 7, and July 8 to 9. Each testing period runs for 33 hours from 9am on the first day to 6pm on the second day. Children under the age of three are not required to be tested.
