Five staff members of Macau’s Hotel Fortuna have tested positive to COVID-19 and more than 380 people isolated on the spot, according to details released by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre.
The update follows reports early Tuesday that between 500 and 700 people would be immediately sent to hotel quarantine after a positive case was detected at the peninsula property.
Head of Macau’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Leong Iek Hou, said Hotel Fortuna is currently classified as a Red Code area. “One of the confirmed patients was a staff member of Hotel Fortuna and three of his colleagues were also found to be infected,” Leong said.
“Another confirmed case was found when he entered Zhuhai.”
The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre noted that the hotel currently has more than 300 guests and 80 staff members, including casino workers.
Their home for the next few weeks “depends on whether the hotel has enough rooms for everyone to be isolated, and if not, they will be isolated elsewhere,” Leong added.
Director of the Health Bureau, Alvis Lo, also revealed that Macau will implement mandatory rapid antigen testing for all residents on Wednesday 22 June.
