Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has, as of Thursday, relaxed the validity period of negative COVID-19 tests for people entering Macau from Zhuhai from 48 hours to seven days.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Centre said it had reached an agreement on the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism between Zhuhai and Macau allowing the validity period of negative COVID-19 tests to be extended for those arriving by land or sea.
Under the newly revised rules, non-Macau residents who fail to present a negative test result obtained within the previous seven days will continue to be denied entry, while Macau residents will be tested immediately. For those who are travelling from Macau to Guangdong Province, the validity period of negative tests will remain at seven days.
A short 24-hour testing requirement had been in place since 18 March after a handful of positive COVID-19 cases were detected in Zhuhai. This was relaxed to 48 hours from 20 April and then to 72 hours from 24 April.
The time for nucleic acid testing for entry into Guangdong Province from Macau has remained unchanged at seven days throughout this time.
