Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has, as of today, relaxed the validity period on negative COVID-19 tests for people entering from Zhuhai from 24 hours to 48 hours.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Centre said it had reached an agreement on the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism between Zhuhai and Macau allowing the validity period of negative COVID-19 tests to be extended for those arriving by land or sea.
This was, it said, “in view of the epidemic situation in the neighboring areas.”
The shorter testing requirement had been in place since 18 March in response to a small number of positive cases being detected in Zhuhai.
Under the newly revised rules, non-Macau residents who fail to present a negative test result obtained within the previous 48 hours will continue to be denied entry while Macau residents will be tested immediately. For those who are travelling from Macau to Guangdong Province, the validity period of negative tests will remain at seven days.
The Centre noted in relaxing its testing rules that “various places are facing a grim and complicated epidemic situation.
“Residents, foreign employees and tourists are thus once again urged to persist in good anti-epidemic practices, including proper mask wearing, frequent hand washing and refraining from gatherings.
“Cross-border travellers should follow the principle of point-to-point travel, neither visit crowded places nor participate in gathering activities [and] unvaccinated people or those who have not completed booster vaccination should get vaccinated as soon as possible.”
